The Situation
A ridge-top building site needed a septic system in ground that fell away on three sides. There was no flat run for a drain field at the elevation the house wanted to sit at, so the tanks, the field and the building pad all had to be resolved against each other rather than one at a time.
What We Did
The pad and the septic were laid out together from the start, so the field went where the soil and the fall actually allowed and the house elevation was set to suit it. Tanks were set on compacted bedding and brought flush with the finished subgrade, lines run at grade off a string line, and the disturbed ground tied back into the pad in compacted lifts.
Result
System installed and inspected, with the tank lids left accessible at grade rather than buried. The pad was handed over at subgrade with stakes and string still in place for the builder.
