The Situation

Tension cracks had opened along a driveway above a steep gorge-side slope, and the toe was visibly bulging. A wet spring had accelerated movement to where the driveway was no longer safe for a loaded vehicle.

What We Did

The failure was groundwater-driven, so drainage came first: an interception drain above the crest and a toe drain to relieve pressure. Then the slope was benched, reinforced fill placed in compacted lifts, the toe armoured with riprap, and the face matted and seeded.

Result

Movement arrested. Drainage was built to be inspectable and the owner was shown where it is and what to watch for.
