The Situation
Forty acres of former hayfield had been left unmanaged for over a decade. Multiflora rose and autumn olive had taken the open ground and young hardwoods were establishing behind them.
What We Did
Woody growth removed at the root rather than cut, stumps extracted, and surface stone picked. A soil test came back at pH 5.2, so lime went on at rate and was worked in before hydroseeding a cool-season mix in early September.
Result
Even germination ahead of first frost and a closed stand by the following spring — dense enough to hold the invasives out on its own.
